The Dead Volume Apparatus is used to accurately determine voids in PVT installations, laboratory flowlines and instruments. The Dead Volume Apparatus provides a known volume of helium, which, in conjunction with the Boyle-Mariotte law for ideal gases, allows calculation of the unfilled space within a system. This unfilled volume must be added to any volume measured with a Gasometer or PVT cell.
The Dead Volume Apparatus consists of a stainless steel cylinder, a precision pressure sensor with a digital display and a temperature sensor that can be connected to a mobile temperature display.
An Excel™ based spreadsheet is provided along with the Dead Volume Apparatus. This Dead Volume Calculator enables dead volumes to be determined quickly and easily.
